Central Ontario Prince Philip Games Final Standings
The Central Ontario Region of Pony Club held its Regional Prince Philip Games Finals on Sunday, July 4 at Durward Farm north of Port Perry. Top three cumulative results are shown below (complete order of finish meet by meet following the highlights).
At the A level, a team calling itself the Left Over Riff-Raff, with members from five different Pony Clubs (Durham, Northwoods, Pine Ridge, Temiskaming and Uxbridge-Scugog), won the championship despite the handicap of never being able to practice together. The Uxbridge-Scugog Hot Tamales placed second, and another Uxbridge-Scugog team, the Misfits, were third. In the Masters competition, the Uxbridge-Scugog Cowboys finished on top, with a mixed Temiskaming/Durham team second and a mixed Pine Ridge/Uxbridge-Scugog team third. The Uxbridge-Scugog Cowboys successfully defended the title it first won in 2002.
The Regional A and Masters level winners and runners-up go on to play for the Central Canadian Zone Championship against teams from the Western Ontario and Saint Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions. The Zone Championships will take place July 21 at Durward Farm. The two top Central Zone A and Masters level teams then go on to their respective National Championships. The top Central Canada Zone A level team then plays against representatives of other Zones for the National A Championship on September 12 at the Southlands Riding Club in Vancouver. There is also a National Masters Championship, which will be hosted by the British Columbia Islands Region in the Pacific Zone (date and place to be set).
Kawartha Pony Club took the honours at the B level, with Uxbridge-Scugog second and Temiskaming third.
At the C level, Maple was first, Simcoe second and Durham third.
A-level players in their final year of eligibility may apply to try out for the 2005 Canadian team, which will compete against the national champions of Australia, Great Britain and the United States. This year, Ms Thomasin Element of the Pine Ridge Pony Club will be Central Ontario’s nominee. She will attend a national try-out camp in Calgary September 3-6, competing for one of five spots on the team against representatives from other Regions.
